Robot & Frank (2012)
Who's in it:
Frank Langella (Frost/Nixon and Balkan from the 9th gate); Susan Sarandon (Cloud Atlas); James Marsden (Cyclops); Liv Tyler (Steven Tyler's daughter.. still can't wrap my head around this one)
Lowdown:
An aging jewel thief with severe dementia (not unlike a lot of my patients) who's losing the ability to care for himself. His son decides to buy him a robot (voiced by Sarsgaard) to help with his ADLs. Though resistant at first, he slowly warms up to the little fella once he figured he could use it as his partner-in-crime.
Musings:
A quirky drama that is smart, engaging, and memorable. Entertaining through the first two acts then provides a resounding third act with an almost gut-wrenching turn. The movie also provides us with a peak into the future that doesn't include killer robots, alien invasion, or dystopian rulers.

Bernie (2011)
Who's in it:
Jack Black (my favorite panda); Shirley MacLaine (In Her Shoes); Matthew McConaughey (surprisingly not shirtless in this one)
Lowdown:
Based on a true story about a beloved assistant funeral director who befriends a senile millionaire. When the latter was found dead, the whole town of Cathage, TX was surprised to find that their town favorite was the number one suspect.
Musings:
A refreshing black comedy (see what I did there?). It's nice to see him act less than his obnoxious self. Hugely entertaining and smartly directed.
